Joe Freire, has been growing strawberries for 20 years and is the Island ’s largest commercial grower of the summer fruit. He supplies local supermarkets, the Central Market and wholesalers from May to October with a range of varieties including the most popular strawberry El Santa.

In recent years he has begun growing Peonies and Freesias which he supplies to local florists and the mainland.

Originally from Portugal , Joe started working for himself in 1984 and took over the running of the strawberry fields in St Lawrence in 1986.
