Home of Mary Ann Ales The Jersey Brewery in one form or another has been part of island life for well over a century and the unique Mary Ann beers it produces can truly be called “Genuine Jersey“ products. The brewery’s beers are part of Jersey’s rich history and heritage, brewing continued during the German occupation and the first world war and by the 1970’s Mary Ann was known as “The beer that made Jersey Famous”. Now after a short absence the famous mysterious Mary Ann name has returned, however the international award winning Mary Ann Best Bitter and Mary Ann Special have rigidly remained consistent in their quality and flavour. Mary Ann Best Bitter 3.6% is a gold medal winning brew which uses the finest roast chocolate malt to produce a deep ruby coloured beer with a distinct hop aroma. Mary Ann Special 4.5% uses the premium pale ale malt- Maris Otter, this gives the beer its blonde colour, whilst the fuggle and golding hops produce the floral fresh taste. Liberation Ale 4%. This golden beer is brewed with the finest Maris Otter and lager malt. Golding hops are used for bitterness, whilst Styrian’s and Hallertau for aroma. Liberation is a well balanced moreish beer with a hint of citrus on the nose. It is now available in all of the Channel Islands. ‘It won the ‘Champion Beer’ award at the CAMRA Jersey Beer & Cider Festival 2009. You will soon be able to get your hands on the bottled version of the award winning ale, so you can enjoy it from the comfort of your own home.
The recipe includes orange zest, mixed spice, raisins, currents and sultanas. The brew will be stored in casks which have been rubbed with Black Butter to allow the flavours to develop. The 4.8%ABV easy-drinking beer has a rich, ruby red colour and is especially good enjoyed with winter warming meals and mince pies. Head brewer and proud Jerseyman is Paul Hurley, he and his team at the new state of the art brewery at Longueville St Saviour, use their local expertise to ensure that every pint which leaves the brewery will be fresher than those that are imported from the UK. The beers are available in the forty plus Liberation group pubs on the island and also in free houses and most hotels.
