First calendar by a Genuine Jersey Member goes on sale

Date: 05/09/2007 | Posted by John Garton
A Jersey photographer, who is a member of Genuine Jersey, has produced a Jersey calendar and is donating some of the proceeds to a local charity.  The Art in the Frame Foundation will receive £1 from the sale of each of Sheila Birch’s calendars.

Entitled “A Personal View by a Local Photographer”, the calendars display a variety of Sheila Birch’s work and each one is exclusively signed by the artist.  Images include apple crushing at Samarès Manor, low water fishing at Icho Tower, flamingos at Durrell as well as a variety of coastal views.

Sheila Birch decided to make the calendar after receiving a number of requests.  She said: “There are lots of calendars on the market with lovely views but I really wanted to create something which showed the quirkier side of island life and had echoes of Jersey’s past.  I hope this is captured in some of the photographs I have chosen.”

Only 500 calendars have been produced.  They are available from the Harbour Gallery, St Aubin craft markets and by contacting Sheila Birch on Tel: 726400.  The calendars are £5.80 each.
