Date: 16/09/2008 | Posted by John Garton
The newly formed Jersey Product Promotion Limited has appointed John Garton as its Executive Director.

Jersey Product Promotion Limited is a new umbrella organisation, grant supported by the States Economic Development Department, intended to increase on-Island sales for members of the Genuine Jersey Products Association and develop export initiatives for on-island producers.

In his new role, Mr Garton will be responsible for the day-to-day development and management of the company, leading on and off-island marketing initiatives, masterminding the continued development of the Genuine Jersey and Jersey Export brands plus providing professional support and advice to existing and new members. In his new role, Mr Garton will work closely with industry bodies and associations as well as the Rural Economy and International Trade & Inward Investment Teams within the States Economic Development Department, to ensure that public and private sector resources are effectively used, to create business opportunities for Jersey producers.

The Genuine Jersey Products Association was launched in 2001 with financial support from the then separate States departments which today make up EDD.  The dozen founder members have grown into almost ninety local businesses and sole traders, all of whom are dedicated to showing the quality, diversity and value of local products and produce. Whilst much of the Genuine Jersey activity has been historically island-based, Members of the Association are increasingly seeking to access export markets using Jersey Export branding and promotion.

Chairman of Genuine Jersey Products Association, Ken Syvret, said: "I welcome John Garton to his new role where his obvious enthusiasm will ensure the continued growth of Genuine Jersey brand and its immense value to the Jersey economy."

Mr Garton, 41, has a marketing background and previously held a senior business development role at Le Riche (now SandpiperCI), where he was responsible for identifying and successfully developing strategic business opportunities.

Mr Garton said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to this new and challenging role.  I’m looking forward to playing an influential role in the continued development of an exciting new venture dedicated to supporting the growth of Jersey businesses through increased on-island trade and exports.”
