More talent and diversity at Genuine Jersey

Date: 10/04/2015 | Posted by John Garton

New members have joined Genuine Jersey – bringing more talent and diversity to the producers’ association.

The Genuine Jersey mark is the guarantee of local provenance and is recognised as a byword for the best the Island has to offer. To carry the mark, goods have to be reared, grown or caught in Jersey or created by accredited Islanders and local businesses who qualify to be members of the Genuine Jersey Products Association.

There are now over 170 Genuine Jersey members. A recent independent survey revealed that an increasing number of Islanders and visitors want to buy and taste local products. It also showed that a third of local residents said that seeing the Genuine Jersey logo would ‘definitely’ make them more likely to buy the product.

New members include:

Sportsalve - Anna Messervy-Evans

Anna (36) has created a high quality range of natural multi-purpose salves, which protect and nourish skin.

While at university Anna worked for six months at Quest International-Givaudan in Holland, which really fuelled her passion for cosmetics and cosmetic science. Her postgraduate job was at the L’Oréal group head office, working across three brands including luxury perfume and cosmetics house Lancôme. Following that she worked for Chanel in the London office beauty PR team.

Her experience in the industry led her to ask in depth questions about the provenance and quality of ingredients in products. After completing postgraduate studies, she formulated and manufactured a pure plant-based salve which is 100 per cent natural and petroleum-free. The salve has been approved to EU cosmetic standards and dermatologically tested. It protects and nourishes skin, containing natural amino acids and vitamins, which support the skin naturally.

This Genuine Jersey cosmetic brand will evolve from Sportsalve into Salve+ over the next four months because customer feedback has suggested that its appeal is wider than the sporting community. Sportsalve will become a product of the Salve+ range.

Lauren Radley Illustration – Lauren Radley

Lauren is an accomplished artist and illustrator who moved to the Island three years ago with her Jersey-born husband. The 28-year-old has already built up a loyal following who love her bright and colourful work, which includes an illustrated map of Jersey.

After graduating in illustration and animation from Kingston University, Lauren lived in London for seven years, working as a freelance illustrator and designer. As well as producing her own range of work, Lauren was – and still is – represented by Eye Candy Illustration Agency and she has been commissioned by the likes of the BBC, National Trust, the Post Office, Coffee Republic and Ted Baker.

Before setting up her own business, Lauren worked for fellow Genuine Jersey member Jane James, and with Jane’s encouragement and support, she developed Lauren Radley Illustration. Her range of work includes prints, cards, tea towels, bags and stationery which are sold in Jane’s shops, the Harbour Gallery, Durrell and Jersey Heritage sites, as well as at markets and online. She also designs stationery for weddings.
